Playgroup Christmas Party in Taipei

Many years ago a few foreign moms living in Taipei have created a playgroup for their children. They would meet once a week for a playdate at a park or at someone's house. The playgroup was not only a place for kids to play together and make new friends, but also a place for English speaking moms to find support while in a "foreign land".

After Jas was born (15 years ago), I also joined this wonderful group of women. And although we didn't attend their gatherings very often, I have still kept in touch with them. Over the years kids have grown, some families have left Taiwan and new families have joined the group. Facebook has made it much easier for everybody to organise group outings and spread the information about different events happening around the city.

Playgroup had grown a lot since the time I first heard about it, now there are over 700 FB members! Nowadays playgroup not only has weekly get-togethers for the youngest ones, but also organises Easter and Christmas parties and charity sales. Many playgroup families take part in the Stage Time and Juice events at Red Room as well. For some time there was also a newsletter written and published by the young playgroup members.

Since we had Ania, our family has again started attending some of the events organised by Taipei City Playgroup. This year for the first time I took Ania for a Playgroup Christmas Party. It took place last Saturday in Bethany School in Gongguan. Ania met some of her old friends and made some new friends too.

There were some yummy snacks that many moms brought:

Children listened to the story of Nativity and joined in singing Christmas carols:

The part that all children waited for was of course the visit from Santa Claus:

Ania was very excited to have met REAL Santa and she kept asking where did he park his sledge. 😄

After unwrapping the presents, children still played some more on the playground and the basketball court. And despite the cold and wet weather everybody had a great time. Seeing how much fun Ania had maybe we will be joining the Playgroup's activities more often now?

Fryderyk Chopin - lapbook

Animals Classification Lapbook

Last week Jaś has been very busy working on the animal classification lapbook. Lately it's been very difficult to get him interested in doing any kind of project, but to my surprise he has finished this lapbook in just a few days! I am really proud of him. I used a ready lapbook template from the wonderful Homeschool Share website, but I asked Jaś to writ all the information in his own handwriting instead of just printing the prepared text. Here are the photos of his lapbook: Jaś adding the finishing touches to the lapbook cover: Lapbook cover: The inside of the lapbook: Inside 'Classifying Living Things ': Animals with and without backbones are called:  Inside 'What are the four main Invertebrate Classes?': Inside 'What are the five Vertebrate Classes?': Mollusk characteristics Annelid characteristics: Arthropod characteristics: Echinoderm characteristics: Fish characteristics: Reptile char...
