University of Hong Kong and Umbrella Revolution

While in Hong Kong attending the Education Conference we stayed at the University of Hong Kong. The university is located on a hill, which means that without knowing the shortcuts and the location of elevators and escalators one keeps hiking and going up and down the stairs all the time, pretty tiring I must say.   We stayed at Robert Black College. The rooms were nice and clean, equipped with everything that one needs for a few days long stay. The breakfast was also not bad (choice of English, Chinese or waffles + a small buffet). The problem was getting anywhere from the university as no buses go into the campus and the underground is still under construction (as many other buildings). Not many taxi drivers want to drive people into the university, so getting back to the college at night was a bit of a problem.   Another quite inconvenient thing about University of Hong Kong was that there were practically no restaurants or shops. The only c...

17-te urodziny Zosi

To już tyle lat minęło? Aż nie mogę w to uwierzyć, że moja mała dziewczynka właśnie skończyła 17 lat. Wyrosła z niej całkiem fajna i mądra dziewczyna. Ciekawa jestem czyja to zasługa? Jaka jest Zosia? - mądra - spokojna - śliczna - pomocna - wysportowana - czasami roztargniona - zna swoją wartość - wie co chce - ma swoje zainteresowania i marzenia - rzadko czymś się przejmuje - "everything is cool" to chyba jej dewiza Zosi siedemnastkę obchodziliśmy w Hong Kongu. Perry, Zosi chłopak, zrobił jej niespodziankę i przyleciał z Tajwanu. Zaprosił swoich znajomych i naszą rodzinkę do pubu i tam świętowaliśmy urodziny.   Zosieńko kochana, 100 lat!

On the streets of Hong Kong

Last week, on our way to Poland, we've spent a few days in Hong Kong. It was mine and kids' second visit to this city. We've spent two days, out of five, at a "We Need Choices - Education Conference 2014" 教育大同論壇 2012 「 教育有選擇 」 . I wrote about the conference here . Other days we got a chance to do a bit of sightseeing and meeting with friends. We've also celebrated Zosia's 17th birthday! Busy, busy HK metro. School bus Ania on the streets of Hong Kong The only old part of Hong Kong left

Homeschooling Conference in Hong Kong

A week ago our whole family was in Hong Kong attending a "We Need Choices - Education Conference 2014" 教育大同論壇 2012 「 教育有選擇 」 . It was a two day conference organised by EDiversity 教育大同 which is a parent-initiated group  promoting choice and diversity in education in Hong Kong. You can read more about the conference here . This was second international education/homeschooling conference that our family took part in. The first one took place two years ago in Berlin, Germany. At both conferences Tim was invited as one of the speakers.      Thank you Cam and Arni for inviting us!

Christmas in Hong Kong

Our very comfortable hotel - East Hotel. Instead of staying home for Christmas we decided to fly for three days to Hong Kong. It was my and kids first time on the other side of the Taiwan Strait. The city didn't really impress us much ... but we still had a great time. Views from the airport bus to the hotel - far from pretty. We not only walked around the city, but also took all possible means of public transportation - bus, tram, taxi, small bus, boat, underground and train (all of us agree that the taxi was the worst). It was very convenient with the Octopus card. Doubledecker tram, Tim on a ferry and plan of MTR.   We tried some local food and drinks. What is "Milk water egg"? Condensed milk diluted with water with a raw egg inside - quite nice. The drinks very really good and the jelly eggs were fun to eat too. Jas loves LEGO so we couldn't miss a visit to the Times Square where big Lego figures and houses were set out. What surprised...
