Babel School in Taiwan

W piątek już po raz czarty odbyła się w Taipei impreza homeschoolingowa rozpoczynająca nowy rok w edukacji domowej. Osiem lat temu (11.09.2012) zorganizowaliśmy tę imprezę sami (mój mąż i ja). Wynajęliśmy duży zespół basenowy, zamówiliśmy katering i zaprosiliśmy bardziej i mniej znane nam rodziny uczące w domu. Zabrało się ponad 100 osób. Można powiedzieć, że była to prywatna impreza, bo nie szukaliśmy sponsorów ani nie zaprosiliśmy przedstawicieli z Urzędu Miasta. Po czterech latach, 9 września 2016 roku, miała miejsce druga impreza homeschoolingowa. Nadal Tim i ja byliśmy głównymi organizatorami, ale do pomocy zaprosiliśmy także inne mamy. Ponownie wynajęliśmy cały zespół basenowy (tym razem w samym centrum miasta) i katering. Tim postarał się o wsparcie finansowe z Urzędu Miasta. Na rozpoczęcie zabawy przyszło kilku VIP-ów z Biura Edukacji. Trzecia impreza miała miejsce zaledwie rok później, 5 września 2017 roku i tym razem była już w 100% sponsorowana przez Biuro Edukacji miasta Ta...

Zosia left Taiwan for Japan at the end of November. She will be staying there until mid-April. Just as last year she is running a ski and snowboard school in Hakuba 白馬, near Nagano.  Before Zosia left I made sure that she had a return ticket for Christmas. Somehow I am still not letting her spend holidays away from family.  She got back to Taiwan late in the afternoon on Dec.23. Few minutes after we got back home from the airport the news crew from one of the main news channels in Taiwan (東森新聞) arrived.  They filmed and interviewed Zosia for a TV news feature and for FB/internet news as well. Beside filming at home we also went to Taipei Ski School, a place where Zosia used to teach skiing before going to Japan. There she has shown how to teach skiing to kids. Kilka miesięcy temu Zosia spędziła dwa dni na planie filmu promującego miasto Keelong 基隆 na północnym wybrzeżu Tajwanu. Studio filmowe zwróciło się bezpośrednio do Zosi z propozycją wzięcia udziału w tym filmiku. Po zapoznaniu się ze skryptem Zosia zgodziła się w nim wystąpić. Producentowi bardzo zależało na tym by akurat Zosia zagrała główną rolą dziewczęcą w tym filmie, czekali więc z filmowaniem aż Zosia wróci z nart w Nowej Zelandii.  Zosia zagrała rolę młodej polskiej studentki odwiedzającej Tajwan. Zobaczcie zresztą sami: I druga część: Co sądziecie o Zosi aktorce? ;-) (Zaznaczam, że błędy w języku angielskim nie są jej autorstwa :-) Taki miała skrypt.)

Zosia od jakiegoś czasu ma nową pracę - nagrywa program do nauki angielskiego dla maluszków. Nie jest to łatwa praca, bo Zosia się dopiero uczy, ale za każdym razem wraca z nagrania bardzo zadowolona. A japoński producent również ją chwali. A co to za program? W TV go się nie zobaczy, ale ... wszystkie dzieci na Tajwanie (i w Japonii) znają ten program, a maskotki-tygryski są wszędzie rozpoznawalne.  Można zaprenumerować comiesięczne DVD + książeczki + zabawki + coś tam jeszcze.  Totalne szaleństwo - tyle tego jest! Zaglądnijcie TUTAJ by się przekonać! Zosia bierze udział w nagraniach zarówno programów, jak i piosenek.  Kilka piosenek pojawiło się właśnie na YouTube. Zapraszam:

W końcu! W końcu nie tylko Zosia ma swoje 5 czy też 15 minut sławy, ale Jasiek również. Po ponad 10 latach udało Mu się ponownie wystąpić w reklamie i to nie byle jakiej ... Sami zobaczcie: W tej reklamie było wszystko (no prawie wszystko) co Jasia interesuje i co kocha - samoloty, gra komputerowa, uniform pilota fighter jet. Jaś byl po prostu wziebowzięty w czasie filmowania. A nie była to łatwa praca, bo pomimo klimatyzacji w hangarze było dość gorąco. Praca trwała cały dzień. Jasiek jednak dał sobie świetnie radę. Stanął na wysokości zadania i pokazał, że też potrafi! A jak dostał tę pracę? Poszedł na casting, o którym Tim przeczytał na Facebook'u. No i udało Mu się! Jestem z Niego naprawdę dumna.

Over two weeks have passed since Zosia won the first place in the modeling competition. (You can read about the 1st eliminations here .) I still can not believe that she has been chosen from among all those talented young people. The competition was really tough. After the first round of eliminations only 60 young girls and 30 guys were chosen. Later, after some training, photoshoots and cat walks, that number has gone down to 30 girls and 15 guys. These 45 young people received more chances to show their ability to work as models, dancers, presenters... They all worked hard, some days for very long hours - starting before 7am! And finally the finals arrived - on the evening of Aug.29th 45 competitors have shown what they have learned throughout the one month of training. More and more often people ask Zosia and us, the parents, where is she going to go to college.We've heard this question from our friends and family, from those who we've just met and those who have known us for a while, reporters and teachers also want to know the answer. Most people assume that since I am a foreigner in Taiwan and Zosia is fluent in English and Polish we are going to send her abroad to study. To tell you the truth, I don't understand this connection. First one needs to ask children weather they want to go to university at all. One needs to find out what are their interests and how can they deepen their knowledge in the area they are interested in. Is it possible for them to audit classes at a local university? Can they observe and experience the kind of work that they are interested in? Is it possible to sign up for on-line courses? Nowadays it doesn't really matter where you are, you can take courses from the most prestigious universities taught ...

Only in Taiwan (and maybe other small countries) can normal kids get a chance to appear on TV. I know that some of you may say that my kids have been on TV quite often and their faces are recognisable, but when they started their TV adventure they were ... just a couple of young homeschooled children, without any experience in front of the camera. How did it all start? Few years ago, when Zosia was 9 and Jas 4 years old we met by chance the Public TV team filming a popular children's program 下課花路米 Follow me, go! . Tim talked for a few minutes to the director and gave him his contact number. Few days later TV called back asking some more questions about our homeschooling adventure.
