Babel School in Taiwan

Cztery lata temu Jasiowi wpadł do głowy pomysł by samemu zbudować komputer. Na początku nie traktowałam tego pomysłu zbyt serio, bo w końcu miał wtedy tylko 12 lat. Chciał mieć szybki komputer z dobrą kartą graficzną, by móc grać. To również mi się nie podobało.

I am really happy to announce that Jaś has completed another project! This time in chemistry - HOW AN ATOM IS BUILD .  He was quite happy to do this project and very satisfied with the result.  The project is trilingual - Polish, English and Chinese. Before he started work on the poster/lapbook we first read the relevant information in both Polish and English textbooks and made notes. Later Jaś translated the most important vocabulary into Chinese. Here is the ready project: The front page Unfolded I hope that there will me more projects like that in the months to come.

Yes, you read it right Conference on Nuclear Medicine. What do we have to do with that? Well ... it so happened that Zosia was invited to give a presentation at this conference. But why? What has she got to do with medicine and nuclear medicine? What is nuclear medicine? Well ... let's start from the beginning. In December my childhood friend wrote me that he will be coming with a brief visit to Taiwan to attend a conference. I offered to show him around if he stayed a few days longer. Later it turned out that he mentioned our family to the conference organizers and they contacted us. They watched some interviews with Zosia and were really impressed with what she has achieved at such a young age. And so they contacted us and asked Zosia to give a short, 30 min., motivational talk to the conference attendees. The organizers wanted her so badly that they even paid for her ticket to/from Taiwan (she flew from Japan to attend the conference). Too bad Tim was not in Taiwan at that ...

Minęło już sporo czasu od ostatniego większego projektu Zosi.  Panna Zofia nie ma za bardzo czasu na zgłębianie zagadnień szkolnych, bo praca zarobkowa ją pociąga. ( TUTAJ można poczytać więcej o edukacji domowej mojej licealistki - po angielsku). Jednak przed wyjazdem do Nowej Zelandii Zosia spędziła kilka dni w domu na nauce. Udało się jej m.in. skończyć rozpoczęty kilka miesięcy wcześniej projekt o państwach azjatyckich.  Celem projektu było zapoznanie się z różnymi formami rządów w krajach Dalekiego Wschodu, czyli krajach nie tak bardzo oddalonych od Tajwanu. Jednak Zosia nie poprzestała jedynie na tym: W trakcie pracy Projekt składa się z mnóstwa małych książeczek, w których zawarte są wiadomości o poszczególnych krajach azjatyckich. This coming school year will be Zosia's final official year of homeschooling. She will be graduating from high school! Time flies, it seems like not so long ago we have started our homeschooling adventure with her and now this journey is coming to an end.  Many people ask us how does the high school years of learning at home look like. Let me try to describe it to you a bit. In Taiwan middle school graduates can apply for homeschooling at high school level directly to the Bureau of Education. When applying students can choose if they want to cooperate with a high school of their choice or not. When they choose to cooperate with the school they need to write up a cooperation plan which has to be negotiated with the school. In the plan they can write that they will be taking some classes at school or they will be taking tests and exams with other students.
