Babel School in Taiwan

Many years ago, when we started homeschooling Zosia, we used to organize monthly outings for other homeschooling families. The outings used to take place on second Tuesdays of each month and that's why they were called 2nd Tuesday. After running these outings for a few years, we decided to pass their organization to others. Unfortunately no one wanted to commit their time and continue organizing 2nd Tuesday. Almost four years have passed since then. I don't think the monthly outings are ever going to be revived (unless I do it). I miss meeting other homeschooling families and going to museums or parks together. That's why I decided to organize field trips for our family. I will be posting when and where we are going on FB and those who want to can join us, no strings attached 😁. I will be taking my 14 and soon to be 7 year old. 2nd Tuesday of each month is a special day - a homeschooling group outing. Unfortunately in the past few months nobody was interested in organising these outings ... Sad, but true. Our family used to be in charge of these outings for the past 6 years and decided that it is time for someone else to take over and ... none, out of over a hundred families, was intereted in organising the outings. Finally last month a future homeschooling family offered to help with 2nd Tuesdays. Their first outing was a blast! Just take a look at the photo album below: In the Butterfly Garden in Shilin you not only can admire the beautiful butterflies and learn about them, but can also climb and the ropes and nets, make pizza and play in the water. It's a great place for an outing for kids (and adults) of all ages.

Last Tuesday was "2nd Tuesday" - a monthly outing day for homeschoolers in northern Taiwan. Our family started these monthly outings back in the fall of 2007. We wanted our kids to get to know other homeschooled children and at the same time we wanted to go out and learn new things. Most of the museums in Taiwan have guided tours, but one needs to book them in advance and very often a  a group of people is needed to participate in some activities organised by the museum. Kawai Piano Factory In the beginning there were only two other families meeting with us，but after just a few months the group has grown to over 10 families. Right now, every month, there are about 60-70 people coming to 2nd Tuesday outings! This week was not much different, 65 people came to see the exhibit on Michelangelo at the Historical Museum. 2nd Tuesday is a good chance for the homeschooling families to meet and chat and for the kids to play together.
