Everything About Dinosaurs

For the past few weeks Jas has been learning about dinosaurs. It's not my favourite subject and I've never 'done dinosaurs' with Zosia as she was not interested in them either. It seems like those big reptiles appeal more to boys than to girls. Here are the books about dinosaurs and fossils that we are reading now: As all DK books, this one is also full of wonderful illustrations. I don't agree with everything that's written in this book, but it gives a good starting point for the discussion on creationism vs evolution. And something in Chinese :-) I bought this workbook a few years ago for Zosia, but she wasn't too interested in it so now Jas is using it. Jas is also enjoying watching the BBC series "Walking with Dinosaurs": as well as doing activites from DK Dinosaur Activity Pack: Few more weeks and we will be all done!

Zosia's English assignment

Zosia doesn't really like writing. No matter what language, no matter what, she just doesn't like writing. She has never liked it. That's why I was quite surprised that she didn't object too much to the assignment I gave her last week. I asked her to write a short story, something about snow... And here is what she came up with: Hey, Ben :) Zozo is snowed in, and is currently going through “Snow Madness”... Dec. 19, Monday I usually hate writing, but this will probably be the last thing keeping me sane. It’s so boring, I started talking to myself. I would call you Ben. You’re a diary notebook, whatever. Now I’ll briefly fill you in on what’s happening. My name is Zozo and I’ve been abandoned by my  parents snowed in. Literally. The windows will seriously break and snow will come in, and I’ll be living “Day After Tomorrow”. Brilliant. I’ve been stuck here since the day my parents left 3,4 days ago. No, there’s no tragic story about why my parents le...

Learning About Genetics

For the past few months Zosia has been reading "The Usborne Introduction to Genes & DNA".  This book comes as one of the "textbooks" for the Sonlight curriculum. It's very informative and beautifully illustrated. A big plus is also the so called Internet-Linked  feature which allows the reader to easily find more information on each topic. In the past two years Zosia has become really interested in the biology of the human body and genetics. As a short project summarizing what she has learned from this course she made a Prezi presentation about the history of genetics. Here it is:

Crystal Mining

For the past few weeks Jaś has been nagging me if he could open a "Crystal Mining" kit. For some reason he's always been asking me about it when there was something more urgent, more important to do - like homework, playing piano, saxophone, reading or simply sleeping. Finally yesterday was the day! He could look for his minerals in the block of plaster. The mining kit all laid out. First cut and... we can see the first crystal! Brushing off the dust.   The minerals need a good wash. All nice and shiny. This activity will lead us to more discussion about minerals and rocks. We will be reading these two  books: We will also talk more about fossils as we are learning about dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures now. Another book from the "Let's-Read-And-Find-Out Science" series is and also "Fossils Tell of Long Ago", which I still need to find at the local bookstore or library.

O wielojęzyczności i grach planszowych (cz.4)

W naszym domu wszyscy lubimy grać w gry planszowe.

Spring is here!

After many, many weeks of cold and rainy weather, the sun has finally come out. Now it is warmer outside than inside the house. That's why these past two days we decided to take our homework outside and sit a bit in the garden. We used to do that quite often in the previous years, but because of the new construction not far away last year it was impossible to relax outside. Now that the construction is almost finished it is not so noisy. Learning together geography of the U.S.A. Bugs also want to learn :-) Our Pate is also enjoying the warm weather. Having lessons outside is probably not very productive, but it's much more fun! Kids get distracted by the bugs crawling around, Inu (our dog) running in circles or digging holes and chirping birds. In summer we usually set up an inflatable swimming pool in the yard and invite other kids to come and play. Can't wait till summer!

O wielojęzyczności - Materiały do nauki języka (cz.3)

Karty do nauki słownictwa i czytania. Karty do nauki slownictwa.
