Key chain collection

Finally Zosia's rails for her key chain collection are up on the wall! Now she needs to arrange all the little things. Wonder how long I will have to wait for all the key chains to be in their place? Hurray! After one week all the little things have found their place on the rails: After the dance classes we had a nice relaxing afternoon on the sofa :-) I finished reading "The Greek News" to Jas while Zosia finished reading "Harry Potter" #5.  Later we played a word card game - "Quiddler".

Busy Friday

Today Jaś had Chinese, English, Polish, math and biology. He also played for a while on the computer, practiced piano, took the dog for a walk and went ice-skating. Busy day, right? But it didn't seem like that. It was just a normal day. In biology Jaś learned about joints: In the afternoon we went ice-skating. Zosia's coach showed her today which off-ice exercises are going to help her jump her axel better. In August Zosia will be going for an ISU Competition in Thailand, so she will need to spend more time on the rink. This week in math Zosia was doing addition and subtraction of negative numbers and learned about absolute numbers. Today we read a chapter on longitude from "Planet Earth" and about silkworms from "Silkworms". Zosia has an order for a wholewheat bread for tomorrow. Few years ago she had a baking and selling bread business. Some people still remembered that and asked her to make them a fresh bread for tomorrow. Ja...

A quiet day at home

This year Zosia started learning chemistry. I never liked this subject nor was I ever good at it, so how can I be teaching it now? Well, we seem to be doing OK and Zosia seems to enjoy it. Half of the success are well written and interesting books. One of them is Usborne's Book of Science .  Today we reviewed a bit the periodic table. Zosia also helped to make one of kids' favorite desserts, bread pudding:

Earth's Layers

Time to teach Jaś about the layers of the Earth. I used Montessori 3 part cards which I made a few years ago when I was teaching Zosia. I don't remember where I downloaded the pictures from, but you can find similar ones at Free Montessori . We also used a worksheet from Science Centers and read a bit from DK Eye Wonder - Earth.

A great start of the week

Jaś has just finished this project about colors. It wasn't a difficult project, but it took a while to complete as Grandparents from Poland were staying with us for a whole month and we were travelling a bit. The object of this project was to teach Jaś how the names of different colors are written in Chinese, English and Polish. The Big Girl was ... playing with bubbles in our science class. She was learning about the relationship between surface tension and surface bubbles :-)
